Scholarships

The American Legion offers several scholarships to high school students entering their junior and senior years.

Department Scholarship Fund - Donating to this fund allows The American Legion Department of Florida Administrators to put the scholarship monies where they are most needed at the time of your donation.  100% of all donations to this fund will applied directly to a scholarship, or scholarship program such as the High School Oratorical Contest.

Eagle Scout of the Year: 1st - $2,500; 2nd - $1,500; 3rd - $1,000 & 4th - $500
Eligibility: Must have earned Eagle Award and religious emblem, must be a High school student and Florida resident, must be in a troop chartered to an American Legion Post or the son or grandson of a Legion Member or parent eligible to join The American Legion Department of Florida.

General Scholarship: 1st - $2,500; 2nd - $2,000; 3rd - $1,000, 4th - 7th - $500
Eligibility: Student must be direct descendent, i.e. child, grandchild, great-grandchild or a legally adopted child of a member in good standing of The American Legion Department of Florida; or a deceased U.S. veteran who would have been eligible for membership in The American Legion, student must be in his or her senior year and attending a Florida high school, parents must be Florida residents.

JROTC Cadet of the Year: 1st - $2,500; 2nd - $1,500; 3rd - $1,000 & 4th - $500
Eligibility: Student must be enrolled in Florida high school and member of Air Force, Army, Marine, Navy or Coast Guard JROTC, parents must be Florida residents, must be in senior year of school, and must be chosen by JROTC commanding officer. Only one application per JROTC unit will be accepted.

Junior Shooting Sports: - Sporter & Precision Individual State Winners - $500 plus an additional $500 if they advance to the Qualification Round.  Sporter & Precision Team State Winners - $500
Eligibility: Must be member of JROTC shooting team who is registered with the Junior Shooting Program at The American Legion National Headquarters.  Deadline: January 1 of current school year.

High School Oratorical Contest: 1st - $2,500; 2nd - $1,500; 3rd - $1,000; 4th through 6th - $500
Eligibility: Student must be enrolled in state accredited high school program in grades 9-12.  Parents must be Florida residents.  This is a speech contest.
