We offer many different programs that you can contribute to through Monetary Donations. Here are a few examples:
General Fund - By donating to The American Legion Department of Florida's General Fund, you are allowing the administrators to use your donation wherever it is needed most. It could be used to supplement any program specific donations, to aid in direct relief of a service member, costs associated with hosting events, or administration of department issues.
Temporary Financial Assistance Program (TFA) - The TFA Program is a National Program run at the Department Headquarters in Orlando, FL by
Gilchrist Fund - The Gilchrist Fund is another direct aid grant program that can be utilized to help veterans and active duty military in their time of need. The Gilchrist Fund can be used in situations where TFA sometimes can't. Whether it be for medical expenses or other basic needs, the Gilchrist Fund can help provide relief. Project: Homefront - Project: Homefront is the newest initiative of The American Legion Department of Florida. Focused on dealing with issues our war-time military personnel are facing as they return home, Project: Homefront is completely free, and open to everyone. Current issues that Project: Homefront is helping our military, veterans and their families to cope with include: Education, Employment, Medical Benefits, Veteran Legislation, PTSD/TBI recovery and rehabilitation, Homelessness, Suicide Prevention and more. Florida Boys State - Florida American Legion Boys State is the Nation's Premier Youth Leadership Program. At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. 100% of your donation will applied to Boys State through transportation of students, housing and meal costs and student/office supplies. American Legion Baseball - American Legion Baseball enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues. Today, the program registers more than 5,400 teams in all 50 states, plus Canada and Puerto Rico. American Legion Baseball has taught hundreds of thousands of young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health and active citizenship. The program is also a promoter of equality, making teammates out of young athletes regardless of their income levels or social standings. American Legion Baseball has been, and continues to be, a stepping stone to manhood for millions of young men who have gone on to serve their country or community, raise families or play the sport at the highest level. But America's Favorite Past Time isn't without expense. Teams require uniforms, equipment, officiating and other expenses. Donate to American Legion Baseball and make a difference in the life of our nation's young athletes. 100% of your donation will be applied to the Legion Baseball Program.
High School Oratorical - “A constitutional speech contest” The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. The program has featured numerous politicians and prominent contestants over the years, including former president candidate Alan Keyes and CNN anchor Lou Dobbs. Scholarships - The American Legion offers several scholarships to high school students entering their junior and senior years. Some scholarships include: Eagle Scout of the Year, General Scholarship, JROTC Cadet of the Year, Junior Shooting Sports, High School Oratorical Contest and the Patriotism Through Art Scholarship.
