Current Project
Department Commander Bob Matheson has chosen to support PROJECT: VetRelief and Florida Disaster Relief, during his 2026-2027 term. It is his hope to raise a total of $100,000 in support of these efforts.
PROJECT: VetRelief is the official veteran assistance program of The American Legion, Department of Florida, dedicated to helping Florida veterans and their families overcome financial hardship and build stable, successful civilian lives. Through emergency financial assistance, suicide prevention initiatives, and community-based support programs, PROJECT: VetRelief provides a hand up—not a handout—to those who have served our nation. Since 2014, the program has assisted thousands of veterans and military families, ensuring that when challenges arise, Florida’s veterans have access to the resources, support, and hope they deserve.

The American Legion, Department of Florida Disaster Relief Program provides critical assistance to veterans, Legion Family members, Posts, and communities impacted by hurricanes and other natural disasters. Established in 2017 following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Matthew, Irma, and Michael, the program helps deliver emergency supplies, financial assistance, volunteer support, and recovery resources when they are needed most. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, Disaster Relief ensures that Florida’s Legion Family stands ready to respond, rebuild, and support those affected when disaster strikes.
