Department Historian

I was sitting at my counter, drinking a cup of “Chock full O’ Nuts” coffee and pondering what I wanted to write for my first “Legion Link” article.
It was very simple.
I wanted to say “thank you.” I want to thank those who convinced me to run again as your Department Historian. First, and most importantly, my wife, Dana. However, I believe she just wanted me out of the house and out of her hair.
As of this writing, the Commander and I have hit the ground running. But this isn’t a travelogue; this is supposed to be more instructional than anything. So, let’s instruct…
I have already received a few requests for photographs from the most recent Department Convention. I Post all my pictures on the Department’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/floridalegion/photos).
This is the most convenient place to find the photographs that you seek. If you do not see the photo there, chances are very good I did not photograph it. Please, please, please, do not tell me you do not use Social Media. I have preached the benefits of social media for too many years now. And, Of course, there is also that Social Media Chair polo shirt I wear…
From the Historian’s side of things. For our new Historians, instructions on creating a history book can be found in the Commander’s Guidebook each Post receives at Department Convention. I also have a few PowerPoints that I can email you. Of course, there will be a class at this year’s conference; if you haven’t already started gathering your material by then, you are already behind the proverbial eight-ball. Start gathering all the information you think is pertinent now, and we can sort it out together. In the beginning, it is better to have too much information than not enough.
In closing, I wanted to thank Phil Crouthamel for a job well done. “Fair winds and following seas” Phillip. You set the bar high.
