Florida Governor Recognizes November as Veterans Appreciation Month, November 11 as Veterans Day

Governor Ron DeSantis has issued an official proclamation recognizing November 2026 as Veterans Appreciation Month in Florida and November 11 as Veterans Day, honoring the service, sacrifice and dedication of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The proclamation recognizes Florida’s approximately 1.4 million veterans and reaffirms the state’s commitment to honoring those who have defended our nation’s freedoms.

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the proclamation also pays tribute to the nation’s 17.3 million veterans whose service has helped shape our country’s history and preserve the principles upon which it was founded.

Florida’s longstanding commitment to its veteran community is highlighted throughout the proclamation, including the work of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs in connecting veterans and their families with earned benefits, services and support. The governor also recognizes Florida’s 10 Honor Flight hubs, which provide veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War opportunities to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., at no cost.

While Veterans Day on November 11 provides an opportunity to recognize those who have worn our nation’s uniform, Veterans Appreciation Month extends that recognition throughout November, encouraging Floridians to honor veterans and their families.

For The American Legion Department of Florida, this month serves as another opportunity to recognize the service of our fellow veterans, strengthen the bonds of fellowship and continue our commitment to supporting veterans, military families and communities across the state.

From attending local Veterans Day ceremonies to reaching out to a fellow veteran, every act of appreciation helps remind those who served that their sacrifices are remembered and valued.

The American Legion Department of Florida encourages Legion Family members and all Floridians to participate in Veterans Day observances and take time throughout November to thank the veterans in their lives.

As we honor their service, let us also remember that supporting our veterans is a commitment that extends well beyond a single day or month.

To all who have served, thank you for your courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to our nation.
