From the Chairman
For current topics and articles, please read the Scouting section of the monthly Department of Florida Legion Link. You can find those here: https://www.floridalegion.org/news-events/legion-link/
The Scouting Resource link (https://www.floridalegion.org/programs-services/scouting/resources/) will provide you with award information and applications, FAQs, Post and District Scouting Chair position descriptions and other important information.
The Department of Florida Scouting Committee oversees recognition of Scouts and Scouters associated with our posts’ Scouting America units throughout the year.
- Eagle Scout of the Yearapplications need to be turned in no later than March 1st of each year. Our First, Second, and Third Place Eagle Scouts will be recognized at the Annual Convention in June.
- American Legion & Scouting Square Knot Awardcan be submitted anytime. That criteria can be found at the Scouting Resource link.
- Outstanding Post Scouting Programapplications are due by May 8, 2026, and cover a period of May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026. Up to three Department of Florida posts are recognized each year for their support to the Boy Scouts of America.
- Department Commander-signed Good Citizenship Certificatesfor our Eagle Scouts should be requested at least two weeks before the ceremony.
I also respectfully request your support in recognizing the fantastic relationships that our Legion Post-chartered and sponsored Boy Scouts of American units have with each other and our local communities.
To do that, I’d appreciate articles and pictures from your Post Scouting Chairs, Chartered Organization Representatives, and District Scouting Chairs that detail and depict that positive relationship and tell a meaningful story for inclusion in the Department of Florida Legion Link. Email them directly to me at Scouting@legionmail.org in Microsoft Word document format by the 10th of each month (except June).
In the same format and fashion, forward articles and/or pictures that will be used for Florida’s application for the Frank N. Belgrano Jr. trophy which is awarded annually to the American Legion Department with the most active Scouting program. I need that information July 15th.
Yours in Scouting and For God and Country…Chris Ragusa
