Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Membership

If you are currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any of the following eligible war eras, we invite you to become a member of The American Legion.

  • Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)
  • June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)
  • Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
  • Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)
  • Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)
  • Aug. 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)

Not Eligible for the Legion?

We have many opportunities for you to get involved and Support Our Troops, even if you aren't eligible for membership in The American Legion.

American Legion Auxiliary

Women who are spouses, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, granddaughters, or great-granddaughters of a veteran who is eligible for The American Legion, or who are veterans eligible for The American Legion, may join the American Legion Auxiliary.  If the eligible veteran sponsor is living, that person must be a Legion Member in order for you to join the Auxiliary.  The American Legion Auxiliary is a seperate organization from The American Legion, and as such, operates it's own programs and Units from within a Legion Post.

Sons of The American Legion

Are you a male whose father or grandfather served our country?  If so you may be eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion (SAL).  The SAL is a program of The American Legion.

Project: Homefront

Project: Homefront is an initiative of The American Legion Department of Florida that is completely free and open to everyone.  Founded to take on the issues faced by our active duty military and veterans returning from war, Project: Homefront operates exciting community events like Paintball Tournaments, Miniature Golf Tournaments, and so much more to raise money for events, like PTSD Retreats, Job Fairs and more for service members and veterans.  Project: Homefront offers a great opportunity to Support Our Troops in a fun, caring environment.  To Learn More, and to register visit:
