Fundraiser for PVC Badia
Alafia Post 148 and SAL Squadron 148 will be holding a fundraiser for PFC JACE BADIA on July 14, 2007 at the Post Home in Riverview. PFC BADIA was severely wounded in an IED attack while serving in Irag last year. The attack resulted in the loss of his left leg, possible loss of the right leg, broken arm and fractures of the back. JACE is married and the father of a six month old baby daughter. His recovery will be both lengthy and painful, and the hardship for his family is and will continue to be great. MORE>>

Annual Policemen & Firemen Appreciation Dinner
The “Legion Family” of Post 137 welcomed all who attended the 11th Annual Policemen & Firemen Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, April 20th, 2008.
We honored the family of JSO Officer James H. Moon who died in the line of duty in 1971 and for whom this building was named and was rededicated on behalf of the American Legion with the placement of a new wall plaque.MORE>>

Death of Past National Commander James P. Dean of Mississippi
A prominent and long-time member of American Legion, Past National Commander Judge James P. Dean, Department of Mississippi passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
Judge Dean served the American Legion faithfully on all levels. He was Department Commander of Mississippi in 1972 and Chairmen of the Internal Affairs Commission from 1976-1984. Judge Dean was elected National Commander in 1986.
He is preceded by his wife Carolyn, and is survived by his daughters, Ellen and Sarah. Condolences can be sent to Ellen and Sara at the following addresses: Mrs. Ellen Hinton, 404 CR 702, Corinth, MS 38834; and Mrs. Sarah Goretski, 429 N. Moye Drive, Montgomery, AL 36109.
The family has requested that donations be made to The American Legion Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1055, Indianapolis, IN 46206; or to the First Methodist Church, Corinth, MS 38834.
National Adjutant Robert W. Sponogle will represent the National Organization at Judge Dean's funeral.
An Amazing Journey
Ken Patterson Jr & Jerry House have just embarked on an amazing journey. On April 19th these two men left Orlando, FL to embark on across trek to Washington DC. The journey is going to take 20 days, and is being done to raise awareness of ALS (more commonly known as Lou Gehrigs Disease). Ken who has ALS will be making this journey in his wheelchair, and Jerry will accompany him on a bicycle.
