Eastern Area Commander
September 2023
Greetings, Eastern Area,
With August in the rearview mirror, many of the Eastern Area installations are behind us now, and hopefully, 100-degree temperatures. Looking ahead will be a period for sustainment and growth. How many “Buddy Checks” did your post do last month? It is time to dedicate our energy to recruitment and training. District 12’s training last weekend at Post 189 in Sebastion was purposeful and well-received. The attendance was spectacular, and a lot of helpful information was exchanged.
With the school year in full swing, reach out to the various leaders in the schools and inform them of what The American Legion has to offer. Do not limit yourself to just public schools. Hundreds of private and charter schools will gladly participate in our programs if they know about them. Every post should have a committee dedicated to informing schools and students about the benefits of Legion programs. Every young American we touch has a potential member in their midst.
As this Legion Link goes to press, a contingent of Florida American Legion Riders (to include our Commander Michael “Gambler” Raymond) is heading to Kokomo, Indiana, to take part in the American Legion Riders Legacy Run to the National Convention in Charlotte, SC. We plan to learn all we can at the convention and bring it home to our Posts, Districts, and Areas. Hope I see you there. Be the One!
