He retired as an engineer for Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratories in Lexington, Mass. He was a member of the North Kingstown Veteran Fireman's Association and the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman's Association. He was a lifetime member of the National Ski Patrol System. He was Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 312 in Oneco, and recently elected as 8th District Vice Commander, Detachment of Florida, Sons of the American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Christopher of Sarasota; a brother, James Magnant of Cape Coral; and his parents Joseph N. Sr. and Sherrell J. of Punta Gorda.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
