Women Veterans

About

The main goal for The American Legion Dept of Florida Women Veterans Chair is to assist all veterans, especially our female veterans, who have served.

We seriously sympathize that it’s very difficult to discuss personal matters for female veterans. Transitioning from active duty to veteran status includes many physical and mental health issues and we are here to support you.

As the Women Veterans Chair, we provide:
  • A point of contact serving under The American Legion, Department of Florida Commander on veterans’ issues on behalf of all women veterans.
  • Attend Area training meetings, District meetings, and Conventions and Conferences, and also visit various Posts in the state of Florida to discuss issues pertaining to all the female veterans. Attend as many Department of Florida Legion events to increase visibility.
  • Assist our sister veterans with access to VA healthcare, mental health programs including PTSD and MST programs, and make visible the issue of homelessness among our female veterans with and without children.
  • Assist with claim filings and sensitive topics, divorce, physical spousal abuse, PTSD, MST, etc. Assist Florida Department of Veteran Affairs and Post Service Officers to ensure no female vets are left behind.

Other duties include Homeless Veterans Stand Downs to look for female veterans exclusively and offer services, job fairs, Female Combat PTSD programs, and all crisis services within and outside the VA System.
