Department Commander Michael “Gambler” Raymond has chosen to support two charities that are close to his heart: Florida Legion’s Disaster Relief Program and Children’s Organ Transplant Association (C.O.T.A.), during his 2023-2024 term. It is his hope to raise a combined total of $50,000 in support of these efforts.
Disaster Relief is a program of The American Legion, Department of Florida, ensuring that our Florida Veterans and Posts are taken care of in the event of a natural disaster. Florida is no stranger to natural disasters, with a history of devastating hurricanes. Through each tragedy, The American Legion, Department of Florida family, has been there to provide aid and assistance. Whether monetary, in supplies, or boots on the ground, Legionnaires throughout the state are there to support their fellow Veterans, families, and communities.
Donate to the Commander’s Charity: Disaster Relief
Children’s Organ Transplant Association (C.O.T.A.) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so funds raised to help meet transplant expenses are not considered income for families. COTA works with individuals of any age with a single-gene disorders such as Polycystic Kidney Disease, Cystic Fibrosis or Sickle Cell Disease.
COTA’s services and guidance are provided at no charge to transplant families. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of patients helps meet transplant-related expenses, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. COTA funds can be used for transplant-related expenses that include lodging, transportation, household expenses, prescription medications, insurance premiums, living donor costs and much more.
