The Florida Boys State Judicial Branch

The School of Law is a combination of instruction and hands-on experience for every Boys State citizen and those elected and appointed to judicial offices. One highlight of the program is a visit by every citizen to the Florida Supreme Court to hear from actual judges and Supreme Court Justices.

Citizens take one class to learn about the Florida court system and judicial branch of government and to help prepare them for the Boys State Bar Exam. They also have the opportunity to watch real lawyers and judges argue a mock trial in their presence. They then create and operate their own County Court and Supreme Court system.

During the week citizens are elected to the offices of City Attorney, County Attorney and County Judge. The attorneys select their assistants and argue a fictitious case before the County Judge and jury with the rest of the county's citizens sitting as an audience.

Those with an interest in pursuing higher judicial offices must pass the Bar Exam to seek the offices of Attorney General and Supreme Court Justice. Once placed into office, the Boys State Supreme Court holds and rules on two oral arguments at the actual Florida Supreme Court. Boys State attorneys including the Boys State Attorney General prepare and argue the case to the Court in a live session in the Supreme Court chambers.
